Start with the drainage pattern

A slow sink can be a fixture-branch problem. Several slow fixtures, a toilet that gurgles when another fixture drains, or wastewater at a low drain or cleanout can point to a wider drainage path that needs evaluation. The pattern helps set the next step; it does not establish a cause on its own.

Reduce water use when wastewater is backing up. Keep people and pets away from sewage and avoid direct contact. If sewage is in a street or neighbors are affected, report the condition to the applicable wastewater utility as well as discussing private plumbing.

Compare the actual repair scope

A targeted repair can be appropriate when a specific section is identified and access is practical. Ask what pipe section, connections, testing, and restoration are included—and what existing piping will remain.

Partial or broader replacement should be discussed only when the available evidence supports a wider issue or when repeated limited repairs have become impractical. Pipe age, one clearing attempt, or a symptom report is not enough by itself to define the scope.

Account for access, utilities, and restoration

The route may cross a slab, yard, landscaping, driveway, finished room, or other constrained area. A useful proposal identifies the anticipated access approach, affected line, connections, testing, permit or inspection needs, and restoration responsibilities before approval.

For planned excavation, Texas 811 and applicable local requirements must be followed so underground facilities can be identified. Marks do not identify every private facility or resolve all site conditions, so site review remains important.

Bring the details that make the decision clearer

Share the property address, affected fixtures, timing, prior clearing or repair records, available plumbing videos, known cleanout locations, and any recent digging, landscaping, foundation work, or utility notice. Only provide photos when it is safe to do so.

The $49 service call covers the visit and evaluation, not sewer-line repair or replacement. Once conditions are reviewed, the proposed work is separately scoped and priced before work begins.

Does a recurring backup mean my whole sewer line must be replaced?

No. Recurrence is a reason to evaluate the drainage pattern, available access, pipe condition, and prior work. It does not by itself establish that every line needs replacement.

Can one section of sewer pipe be repaired?

It may be possible when a specific issue and a practical access approach are identified. The written scope should state the included section, connections, testing, and restoration responsibilities.

Is a sewer-line replacement included in the $49 service call?

No. The $49 service call covers the visit and evaluation. Any clearing, repair, replacement, locating, excavation, permit, testing, or restoration work is separately scoped and priced before approval.

Should I call the city about a sewer backup?

If sewage is in the street or nearby properties have a similar issue, contact the applicable wastewater utility. A private plumbing concern and a public-system report can be separate responsibilities.
