Name the system and the line sections

Sewer-line work concerns drainage piping that carries wastewater away from the building. It is separate from hot- and cold-water supply piping, gas piping, irrigation, and fire-protection systems unless those are specifically included in writing.

Ask the proposal to identify the affected building drain or private sewer section, its connections, any piping that will remain, and the condition or symptom being addressed. The phrase “whole-house” does not describe the exact sewer scope by itself.

Plan the access path before work begins

The route and conditions determine whether access involves a cleanout, interior opening, slab area, yard, driveway, landscaping, or another location. The scope should state anticipated access points and how unexpected concealed conditions will be handled rather than promising that no finishes or site features will be affected.

Before excavating, follow Texas 811 and local requirements. Utility marks support safe planning but do not replace property-specific review of private facilities, irrigation, structures, and other site constraints.

Define testing and approval requirements

A useful proposal explains the testing or inspection steps that apply to the planned work and identifies who is responsible for permit coordination. Requirements depend on the actual address, scope, and authority having jurisdiction, so they must be confirmed for the project rather than assumed from a general page.

A Texas Responsible Master Plumber is on record for Honest Choice Plumbing. That credential does not eliminate project-specific permit, inspection, utility-locating, or property-approval requirements.

Separate pipe work from restoration work

Pipe replacement and final restoration are not automatically the same scope. Clarify responsibilities for concrete, drywall, flooring, cabinets, paint, texture, landscaping, paving, cleanup, and removal of debris before authorizing work.

Ask for the price tied to the defined scope and for the process if unknown conditions change it. The $49 service call covers the visit and evaluation; project work is separately priced before approval.

What should a sewer-line replacement scope include?

It should identify the affected pipe sections and connections, anticipated access, tests or inspections, applicable approval responsibilities, and restoration inclusions or exclusions. The final content depends on the property and work proposed.

Will a sewer-line scope include landscaping or concrete restoration?

Do not assume it does. Those items should be expressly included or excluded in the written proposal, along with responsibilities for finishes, paving, cleanup, and debris.

Do utility marks show every line on my property?

No. Texas 811 information explains that utility locating is an important excavation step, but site planning must also account for private facilities and property-specific conditions.

Is sewer-line work the same as water-supply repiping?

No. Sewer-line work concerns wastewater drainage. Water-supply repiping concerns separate hot- and cold-water piping. A written scope should make the system clear.
